When 24-year-old Steven Balllard is found dead, the police quickly realise that this is no ordinary case - for his body is that of a man in his seventies. They call in Torchwood to investigate, and after another corpse is found, it becomes clear that something terrible is happening. Someone is sending victims to a dark dimension, to be punished by the thing they fear most. Who is the shadowy taxi driver preying on his passengers? What significance do boxes of matches play in this mystery? And can Jack ever escape from his own personal Hell...? The Torchwood team are caught up in the deadly activities of a mysterious cab driver in this exclusive audio adventure, read by Eve Myles (who plays Gwen Cooper in the TV series). Spread over two CDs, this audio book last for approximately two hours. This story is set before Owen Harper and Toshiko Sato leave the show, although they play so small a part in this story that they might as well not be there. Eve Myles reads this story very naturally - even if her vocal interpretations of Jack is unintentionally comical - in a way that makes you want to continue listening from start to finish. For nit-pickers out there, there is one part of the story that will have you tutting. When Jack wants to use the weapon to send evil monsters to Hell Gwen says: "We're not here to judge people." That's not strictly true is it? As Torchwood do judge creatures and people who commit evil on a regular basis. And while they don't have the ability to send them to Hell, they do kill them at the drop of a hat - so why not send them to Hell instead? This story feels like two very different tales, with the natural break coming between the two discs. So, disc one concentrates on the hunt for the mysterious taxi driver who is sending people off into their own personal Hell, while disc two follows Jack Harkness as he is sent there too, and Torchwood's attempts to save him. Torchwood fans will be impressed by this entertaining tale which is well written, well read and genuinely entertaining from start to finish. 9 Nick Smithson Buy this item online |
