Agent Zack Grant's life is about to go down the toilet. Already in trouble, his operation to uncover the nefarious deals of a skinhead group goes disastrously wrong when his partner kills all the suspects before throwing herself out of a window. The father of the leader turns out to be a Mafia boss who wants revenge on the people who ordered the killing and so kidnap Grants son, to force him to bring the responsible Yakuza to him for a bit of personal justice... No Way Back (1995 - 1 hr, 31 min, 10 sec) is a confused action film written and directed by Frank A. Cappello. I’m not really sure why Sony thought that it would be a good idea to put this film out on a Blu-ray, presumably only because Russell Crowe stars in what would normally be considered an okay television movie. Essentially the film is that old chestnut of a bad boy rouge cop who is willing to step outside of the law to get the right thing done. Crowe does what he can with a variable accent and an even more variable script, but there is little that can save the film from its own mediocrity. The film open with the skinhead gang killing a Yakuza gang lord, why is never explained, the leader is then killed by Crowe's rookie partner. Along the way there is a high jacking, this is the high point of the film before it the action slows down to a crawl. To be honest the film lack action, character development and a coherent script. The film is presented, with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 widescreen with an English, French and Spanish 5.1 trueHD audio track with nine European subtitles as well as subs in Arabic and Hindi. Once again the BD live is without any content at the moment, worse still for a Blu Ray there is not a single extra. For Crowe fan, it’s another film to complete their collection, who, no doubt will be happy with the increase in the films clarity; the majority will be finding it a bargain bin soon. 4 Charles Packer |
