Mankind stands on the brink of a wondrous new Green Age. But ancient forces of darkness, three years older than time itself, have returned to wreak destruction. Even more shocking: Bender's in love with a married fembot, and Leela's on the run from the law - Zapp Brannigan's law. Fry is the last hope of the universe... so if you're in the universe, you might want to think about going somewhere else. Could this be the end of the Planet Express crew forever?... Into the Wild Green Yonder is the fourth, and currently final, straight to movie Futurama DVD, following on from Bender's Big Score, The Beast with a Billion Backs and Bender's Game. This DVD sees Amy's father insistent on destroying the universe to make way for a giant 18 hole golf course, but in doing so he will wipe out of existence numerous endangered species; Fry discovers that he can hear the thoughts of others and is soon whisked away to join a secret organisation who have been waiting for the end of the universe; Bender falls in love with the fembot wife of the head of the robot mafia; and Leela joins a womans protest group, which have some of the worst slogans ever heard, to do her bit to save life as we know it. Extras include an audio commentary with cast and crew (which includes interesting anecdotes on Snoop Dogg's recording and where the science in-jokes are in the movie); Storyboard Animatic (22 min, 26 sec); Behind the Scenes (5 min, 09 sec tongue in cheek look at all of the elements that make up a Futurama episode - showing how voice actress Lauren Tom is responsible for everything); Penn Jillette Mania (2 min, 08 sec footage of Jillette recording his lines); Cutting Room Floor (2 min, 32 sec of deleted scenes); Matt and David in Space (4 min, 23 sec look at Matt Groening and David X. Cohen's ride aboard the Zero G plane); How to Draw (11 min, 11 sec look at how to draw the professor, Nibbler, Hypnotoad and Fry); 3D Models (4 min, 19 sec look at a handful of the computer generated images); Bender in the Theatre (1 min, 16 sec short on Bender's movie theatre etiquette); Zapp's Love Guide (2 min, 49 sec guide on how to make love at a woman); and at least one Easter Egg. While there's a part of me that hopes that this is not the last we've seen of the Planet Express crew, the ending to Into the Wild Green Yonder is a fitting place to leave the franchise. 9 Darren Rea |
