When Gavin Gore and his three friends Hobie, Maynard and Sophie, go for a hike and discover some suspicious footprints that they assume must belong to Big Foot, they alert the police and media and start a small sensation in the town. Gavin's dimwitted neighbours Zerk and Shirts need cash to save their beloved Pontiac Firebird from being repossessed so they come up with the idea of selling plaster casts made from the footprints online... The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang is a geeky teen comedy that never quite delivers what it promises. The biggest problem with this movie is the fact that the acting ranges from average to poor. The characters are not overly believable and I couldn't help thinking that this was originally pitched as a poor (very poor) mans Kevin Smith style movie, but then at the last minute they decided to make it a little more child friendly. Add to this the fact that the basic plot is stretched to breaking point, and you have yourself a film that never quite lives up to what it could have been. Part of the problem could be the fact that the movie is written and directed by one person, Tim Skousen - meaning that less people had a creative input into what appeared on screen. What's really sad is that you can almost see how good a movie this could have been if more of the lumps had been knocked out of it. Extras include Deleted Scenes (11 min, 42 sec); News Footage (1 min, 41 sec) and Big Foot: Man or Myth? (1 min, 52 sec - original Dr. Artimus Snodgrass footage). While there are a few moments where the potential shines through, the end result is a pretty average offering. 5 Darren Rea |
