Casper has a new assignment: get in touch with his spooky side and start scaring "fleshies" - or else. Kibosh, the King of the Underworld wants him to learn how to shock people properly. When he goes to Scare School to learn his supernatural craft, he uncovers a plot by Alder and Dash, the cruel, two-headed headmaster, to use a petrifying potion to turn Kibosh into stone and take over the world. With only himself and his misfit pals - Ra, a mummy with "unravelling issues" and Mantha, a zombie girl who can't keep her arms and legs on - the odds are stacked against him... But what Alder and Dash don't realise is that the power of friendliness is greater than any evil plot and when friends work together nothing can stop them... Casper's Scare School is a computer animated movie which sees the world's friendliest ghost having to attend a school for wayward spooks who are not as scary as they should be. If they fail their training then there is only one place for them to go - the valley of the shadows; an unimaginably horribly place from which there is no return. When the movie opened I was a little concerned that the CGI animation was a little on the basic side, but it soon improves. While not some of the best animation to ever have been created, it's adequate for the story. However, there was one segment where it looked like an ad for a PSOne console game. The plot was far better than I was expecting. The characters are also interesting. Here we have Casper's new school friends (including Ra the mummy and Mantha the zombie); his nemesis Thatch the vampire; the two headed headmaster Alder and Dash; and no Casper story would be complete without Casper's uncles Stinky, Stretch and Fatso. This is one kids movie that parents won't find too hard to watch. There are no extras on the disc, but then I can't think of anything I'd want to know about the making of it anyway. 7 Nick Smithson |
