Coinciding with the US DVD release of award-winning Canadian dark comedy Just Buried, Movie Score Media releases the strikingly original orchestral score by up and coming composer Darren Fung. The music was recorded by the Czech FILMharmonic Orchestra in Prague and makes prominent use of the harpsichord to create an unusual atmosphere that combines quirkiness with elegance in a way that really makes you smile...

Darren Fung's soundtrack to Just Buried is an interesting collection of various musical styles. The opening theme 'Welcome to Elder's Bluff' sets the right tone for the rest of the music. It sounds very much like your cliched "introduction to a sleepy town" style of track, but with a wonderful twist. There's an underlying feel of the horrors to come. This is further picked up in the next track 'Whynacht's Funeral Home' which is an extension of the opening track.

Then there are tracks like 'Pickles has the Stick' which showcase Fung's ability to provide a nod and a wink to Vivaldi, as well as the more lighthearted offerings like 'Fortunes are Changing', and the spooky 'Damned Prostrate' which reminded me of the truly eerie moments from Gary Schyman's score for the BioShock console game.

There's roughly 33 minutes of music here spread across 20 tracks, but I could have listened to a lot more. An interesting and very pleasing score which is well worth searching out.
