Eugene McGuinness is a British singer-songwriter, born in London but based in Liverpool, and is of Irish heritage. McGuinness began writing music at the age of 15. He moved to Liverpool to attend the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) after leaving school in London. While he was in Liverpool, he made friends with fellow LIPA alumni The Wombats and even performed for Paul McCartney. 'Fonz' is the second single taken from Eugene McGuinness’s recently released much acclaimed self-titled full-length debut. This single is a slice of playful pop perfection with a post-punk edge. This is an upbeat and infectious track and is fun and lighthearted. Watch out for the cheeky lyrics: "We said farewell and we synchronized our watches, arranged for a meeting with our crotches." It’s imaginative and utterly charming. Negatives about this single? It’s too short, and the single cover is quite scary, a man in his 50’s, not unlike Terry Wogan, dressed as Fonz from the cult TV show, Happy Days. Apart from that... this is a great single which leaves you wanting more. 7 Helena Rea |
