Kenny Anderson, known primarily by his stage name King Creosote, is an independent singer-songwriter from Fife, Scotland. In 1995, Anderson launched his own label, Fence, alongside Johnny Lynch and began recording albums under the name King Creosote (KC).

Flick The Vs is KC’s new album, which has everything from folk, strings, drop down beats, pulsating synths and fantastic acoustic sets.

The first track on this album is 'No One Had It Better'; I wasn’t quite sure what to make of this track, as everything seems mixed up together. The synth didn’t quite fit in with the drum and strings, the guitar in the background or the opening vocals. Two minutes in and KC’s vocals come to life and with them a breath of fresh air is introduced to the track.

Quite a few of the tracks on this album are what I would call French folk style. 'Two Frocks At A Wedding' opens with a lonely accordion being played alongside KC’s vulnerable vocals. While 'Rims' has a very upbeat tempo throughout and only slows for breathe at the chorus. It has the speedy feel of being on an express train. A journey I could have quite happily made longer.

'Camels Swapped For Wives' is a slow tempo track and I love the vocals on this. It’s the first time you can actually hear the Scottish accent and it sounds good. This is a very homely sounding song and listening to the lyrics there is real passion in his voice.

I absolutely love the intro to 'No Way She Exists', the deep sound of the saxophone intertwined with the guitar and drums is fantastic and then the melody comes in. This is a happy go lucky, fun song, which is portrayed through the lyrics and the quick step of the beat.

'Fell An Ox' opens with an eerie intro; a pulsating beat and the twang of guitar strings. It’s a very effective raw song. There is no melody as such just the raw vocals with the guitar twanging strings. At two mins. the melody slowly enters. It’s a very heartfelt song which at times feels like is has East Asian influences.

As we reach 'Saw Circular Prowess', you get the distinct feel that this is the final song of the album. It’s winding down and preparing you for the end of the journey.

King Creosote has produced a diverse album and with it he expresses the love and passion for his music. There are plenty of beats and hooks, on Flick The Vs, to keep you going again and again.

This album has a tune for every mood.
