Azzido Da Bass is probably best known for his worldwide club anthem ‘Dooms Night’. He is one of dance music’s legends and this time he has teamed up with the super cool New York City label Coco Machete Records for his new electro-house track ‘I Want U’. Digitalism’s lead singer, Jence, supplies the lead vocals on this track, of which there are four mixes; two original mixes, a remix by Jence himself and a mix by Istanbul’s Gooseflesh. ‘Azzido Da Bass Mix - Part 1’ opens with a strong beat and the vocals, which repeat over and over "I want you". This mix opens up to claps, electro and house styling. The beat and melody are quite catchy if not a little repetitive and sounds quite old school. ‘Azzido Da Bass Mix - Part 2’ also has the strong beat running through it but it has more of a scratchy feel to it. Comparing the two mixes I much prefer ‘Part 1’. ‘Part 2’ feels too bitty and incomplete. The ‘Jence Remix’ has a very repetitive opening, which is only saved by the melody kicking in which brings more depth to this mix. The beat becomes stronger which is then stripped from all of the electro, at one point leaving the track with pure beat. Although not for long it’s very effective. ‘Gooseflesh Remix’ is darker and sounds quite ‘tinny’. The vocals play right away with no scratching nonsense, until further into this mix that is. As this mix goes on it seems to get darker and more repetitive, which is a shame as it started off sounding quite good. The final mix of ‘I Want U’ is the ‘Jence Dub Mix’ and to be honest there is little variance on this mix to the ‘Jence Remix. It’s a few seconds longer and that’s about it. It has the same beat, rhythm and electro sound. I feel that, although good beats, these mixes are all repetitive and don’t give enough variety amongst them. I always feel that when remixes are churned out and sound the same that there has been an opportunity lost to have a diversity and richness in the music. 7 Helena Rea |
