Scratcha DVA is an accomplished producer in the UK as well as being the host on Rinse FM’s breakfast show. DVA has supplied dubs to DJ Slimzee during grimes early days and has produced for celebrities of the scene like Wiley, Trim, Chipmunk, Tinchy Stryder and more. More recently Scratcha has teamed up with inspirations of the UK funky scene like Roska, Cooly G, D-Malice and more whilst still releasing anthems like ‘Nasty Nasty Nasty’ and ‘Bullet Ago Fly’. The Jelly Roll EP is made up of four tracks. The first being the title track which has a synthetic bassline and jumps up and down in the style of scales. It’s a little repetitive for my liking and I can see why it might be called the ‘Jelly Roll’ as it’s kind of wibbly wobbly in sound and rolls up and down. ‘Guro Triba’ has a more familiar sound when it comes to House and Funky. The bassline here is strong and mixed with a funky beat to nod your head to. The melody is synthed out and this all fits well together, much better than the previous track. ‘Nasty Nasty Nasty (Roska Remix)' is set with a heavy beat and a crisp melody. This is a funky remix with kicks and snares that anyone would love. The last mix on this EP is ‘Nasty Nasty Nasty (Sukh Knight remix)’ where it is given the dubstep treatment for all to enjoy. This is a funky EP and one to get you in the mood for the rest of the clubbing night. 7 Helena Rea |
