'Cornerstone' is the second single to be taken from the Arctic Monkeys's latest album Humbug. And to be quite honest it's one of only a few enjoyable tracks on the album. It's a little hard to review this single fairly as we only received the track 'Cornerstone' for review. However, if you purchase the 7" single you get two tracks ('Cornerstone' and 'Catapult') and if you buy the 12" or digital download you get four tracks ('Cornerstone', 'Catapult', 'Sketchead' and 'Fright Lined Dining Room'). So here goes... a review with three of the tracks missing... 'Cornerstone' wouldn't sound out of place on a Morrissey album - in fact the lyrics and music are a million miles away from the usual Arctic Monkeys track and I can't help thinking that this is their attempt to pay homage to the great man and his music. However if you hear this and then rush out to buy Humbug, be warned... the album doesn't live up to the first two singles to be released. Both 'Crying Lightning' and 'Cornerstone' are the only two singles I actually found interesting - everything else sounds like a b-side effort. 'Cornerstone' is a great track, and I'm sure that the inclusion of the other three tracks will make this an essential purchase for Arctic Monkeys's fans. 8 Darren Rea Buy this item online |
