Jeff Grace's scores to The House of the Devil and I Can See You are released on a single CD. The House of the Devil is atmospheric and eerie while the music for I Can See You is a Tangerine Dream-inspired collection of atmospheric electronic music coupled with Grace's trademark string writing... The music for The House of the Devil / I Can See You left me a little disappointed. First we have The House of the Devil. Yes it's atmospheric, yes it's eerie, and yes it's original. However this is the sort of music that is painful to listen to on its own. It doesn't do anything for me at all, although I'm sure that coupled with the action of the movie this is pretty exciting stuff. Sadly it all sounds the same and is way too repetitive - the section which sounds not unlike a swarm of bees becomes very annoying very quickly. I Can See You sounds extremely dated. The detuned piano segments are particularly cringeworthy. However, then we hit the track 'Summer Day' and everything starts to look positive. But sadly that and 'Swimming Hole' are the only two tracks I actually enjoyed. While interesting this is not a collection I'll be listening to again. 3 Darren Rea |
