Silva Screen Records presents the world premiere recording of the complete score from the 1961 Charlton Heston Epic El Cid. The soundtrack is conducted by Nic Raine and performed by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus... The soundtrack to El Cid represents approximately 150 minutes worth of music spread over 48 tracks. There are so many original themes and styles in this one album and composer Miklós Rózsa never lets the grass grow under his feet - just as you start to warm to one them, off he moves to deliver another with even more passion. This is an epic soundtrack for an epic movie. Pomp and ceremony is the order of the day for the majority of this album, but there are equally a fair amount of love themes, and majestic tracks that sweep you away to a time when Hollywood employed huge sets and a cast of thousands. For those that love epic, orchestral scores then you won't be disappointed by this release. Okay, it may be almost 50 years late, but the wait was well worth it. 10 Darren Rea |
