From the creator of Family Guy and the co-creator of American Dad, comes a brand-new animated series of pop culture parodies, skewered stories and fabulously filthy fun nuggets. Uncensored, uninhibited and unbelievably hilarious, Seth MacFarlane's Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy is brimming with raunchy, twisted humour you can't see on television anywhere... Seth MacFarlane's Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy originally started life on YouTube, where each month a handful of episodes were posted. The format of the show sees a collection of short gags, similar to those totally irrelevant cut-away jokes that feature on Family Guy. And, because the overall quality is well below average for a MacFarlane production, I couldn't help wondering if in actual fact these were rejected Family Guy gags - but reworked so that they were ruder in a bid to mask the fact that they aren't particularly funny. But it's not all bad. In amongst the mindless jokes are a handful of nuggets. Highlights include 'The Bartender Says...'; 'Super Mario Rescues The Princess' (even if it's almost identical to a third season Robot Chicken gag featuring Zelda); and 'Barry Gibb Rides a Roller Coaster'. Other highlights (which are exclusive to the DVD and have never been seen before) include: 'Die, Sweet Roadrunner, Die'; 'Fred Flintstone Takes a Sh*t'; and 'The Wizard of Oz, Adjusted for Reality'. Also I couldn't help thinking that the 'Two Ducks Watching Meet the Parents' gag could easily have been 'Two Ducks Watching Seth MacFarlane's Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy'. Extras include Red Carpet Premiere (4 min, 21 sec of footage from the premiere bash); and Stills Gallery (look at rough character models / cleaned up character models / coloured character models). While mildly entertaining, this series is more miss than hit. And, unlike Family Guy or American Dad, you're unlikely to watch this more than once. 4 Darren Rea |
