Continuing directly on from the first film, in which a caving expedition in the Appalachian Mountains goes seriously awry, we have survivor Sarah emerge filthy and hysterical. She is rushed to hospital, but the fact that she can't remember what happened and is covered in the blood of her friends, makes the authorities very suspicious. Sheriff Vaines forces her to return to the caves in his own rescue party, but after a rock fall traps them inside, they are obliged to delve deeper into the darkness. Here, they learn the truth about what took place before - with devastating circumstances... There is very little to say about this one. This is one of those films which suffers from diminishing returns. Once you know what to expect, any prospective build-up of suspense is negated. Anyone who hasn't seen the previous film will no doubt enjoy it, but although an averagely good example of retro horror, it is still only a rehash of The Descent, which incorporated strong characters and internal conflict. So, in short, an enjoyable viewing experience but tempered by no real progression of the central idea. Extras include a cast and crew Commentary, a Making of... documentary, Deleted Scenes with optional commentary, Storyboard Galleries, Production Design Gallery, and Theatrical Trailer. 6 Ty Power |
