Thirty five years since its original broadcast, The Good Life is being release on DVD courtesy of Acorn Media UK. Starring Richard Briers, Felicity Kendal, Penelope Keith and Paul Eddington this is the comedy series that put organic foods, self-sufficiency and green thinking on the map years before anyone else. In this second series, Tom and Barbara Good find themselves commercially tempted with the results of their harvesting and pottery skills, discover the benefits of public relations’ and end up in the ‘nick’ when a thief takes a leek. Meanwhile the possibility of a commune next door, pig-breeding and a starring role in The Sound of Music, can only leave Margo at her wit’s end and Jerry reaching for a stiff drink...

This is the first time that The Good Life has been released in its entirety on DVD in the UK. The previous release missed two episodes, one from series one and another from series three. In addition each series collection includes a new interview with a member of the cast or crew: for series two it's Richard Briars.

All seven episodes from series two are included here. Highlights include:

The Day Peace Broke Out: When Tom thinks someone is stealing leeks from his garden he stays up all night to catch the culprit. When a stranger appears in the dead of night and helps himself to Tom's crops, Tom shots him with a pellet gun. Before he knows it, Tom is up in court for assault.

Mutiny: Margo refuses to put up Jerry's boss's foreign visitor because it is the weekend of her production of The Sound of Music. As a result, Sir fires Jerry. To make matters worse Margo's production is a total disaster.

Home Sweet Home: When a local farmer brings his boar round to the Good's to service their pig, the farmer is impressed with what the Good's have achieved. He points out that there is a small holding up for sale nearby which would be ideal for them. The Goods decide to move... but they soon realise that there is one little thing keeping them from making the best investment of their lives... they don't really want to leave their home.

Extras include An Interview with Richard Briars (12 min, 54 sec 2010 interview on his time on The Good Life); Many Modes of Margo (picture gallery.

If you don't already own this on DVD then now is the time to pick this series up.
