Victor Maynard is a lonely, uptight middle-aged, solitary assassin, who lives to please his formidable mother, Louisa, despite his own peerless reputation for lethal efficiency. His latest assignment is to take out con artist Rose for gangster client Ferguson after she ripped him off by selling him a fake Rembrandt. But finding himself increasingly attracted to the bold and beautiful Rose, Victor is unable to complete the job, and instead ends up trying to save her and a teenage boy who accidentally gets caught up in the resulting mess from the murderous intentions of his less-than-happy client...

Wild Target is a British comedy based on the 1993 French film Cible Emouvante.

The most impressive aspect is the movie's cast (Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Rupert Grint, Eileen Atkins, Martin Freeman and Rupert Everett), so why the end result wasn't better than it actually is is a bit of a surprise.

I suppose the biggest problem is that its comedy is a bit middle of the road. A slightly darker sense of humour would have made for a much more enjoyable movie. The jokes, for the most part, work well - although the "half now, half later" gag wasn't really very funny the first time... so why it was repeated again in the movie is anyone's guess - it's just that they're a little too predictable.

Most of the humour comes from Victor's inability to work out why he's off his game. He doesn't, for one minute, realise it's because he's becoming attracted to Rose. He even, briefly toys with the thought that it might be because he is subconsciously attracted to Tony.

The actors all do incredibly well with the material they have... but I couldn't help thinking that this could have been so much more.

Extras include various interviews with cast and crew (56 min, 02 sec).

While this is enjoyable enough, there's very little here that will warrant a repeat viewing.
