101-in-1 Sports Party Megamix offers gamers a collection of one hundred and one party-oriented sports mini-games ranging from tennis and basketball practice, to speed racing and skiing. You can play these games alone or with up to three other friends. Compete for best results and beat your own records. With a £20 price tag gamers shouldn't expect too much from this release. And yes, some of the games are almost unplayable, others are rather naff, but there is the odd fun offering - and these are generally most enjoyable when playing against friends. When you start the game you can choose which of the four characters you want to be. You can also play against three other computer controlled characters, or with one, two or three other friends. You start with a limited number of games to choose from, but as you win games you unlock more. I have to admit that I played through all the games on offer at the start and unlocked about another 20, but by that point I really began to lose interest. Some of the controls are a pig to handle, while others aren't just don't work the way they should (the horse dressage game is the worst offender here. Just getting your horse to go in the correct direction is a nightmare). To be fair you get a lot of games for your money - true most of them you'll not want to play again, but there are some fun offerings that make this fun to dig out every once in a while and play against your friends. 5 Nick Smithson |
