Worms: Battle Islands is a turn based strategy game that allows players to battle across six custom designed levels as they take control of and customise their islands. For the first time on Wii, players can engage in online multiplayer as they climb the ranking system in eight progressively higher ranks... I remember many long night playing Worms Armageddon on the original Playstation console with friends. It was addictive and very, very funny - there's nothing quite like blowing your friends worms to pieces. But that was years ago and with the launch of Worms Battle Islands on the Wii, I wasn't convinced that it would still be all that much fun. The controls aren't as simple as they could be, but then using the Wii controller that was never going to be an easy task to pull off for the developers. But to be fair, once you get use to them, it's not all that difficult to control. There are more weapons than Worms Armageddon, as well as different game modes - including a puzzle mode in which you have to figure out how to kill your opponents with the weapons/abilities on offer. You have the ability to customise your weapons, profiles and environments and can engage in online multiplay. However the main game is still pretty much the same and is just as much fun as I remember. This is a game that is best played with at least one other friend, but is even better with two or three friends joining in the fun. If you've never played Worms before, then this is well worth picking up, and if you're a fan of the original then you'll relish the opportunity to revisit this slightly updated version of this classic game. Even though it's a bit of an old game, there's still plenty here to amuse most gamers. 8 Nick Smithson |
