Christopher Young's soundtrack for Creation represents a collection of mellow, beautiful themes and is certainly worth checking out.

The first soundtrack of Young's that I bought was his score for The Fly II (1989), followed by the first two Hellraiser soundtracks. To be honest, he's not a composer I've really followed over the years, not for any real reason other than I've not seen a film he's composed where I've felt the urge to part with my money in order to own the soundtrack - other than the aforementioned albums.

It's interesting to discover that with Creation Young has taken a huge step away from the horror genre and has greatly matured as a composer.

The main theme 'Creation' is quite a strong track and is echoed occasionally throughout the album. Other highlights include the classical sounding 'The Ghost Pavane' which uses the piano and string section of the orchestra; 'Cunning Gunning' which reuses one of this soundtrack's main themes at its core; and 'Knowing Everything I know' which builds slowly and is easily this album's most beautiful track.

There are tracks that weren't to my taste. These include 'Partly Part' which I found a little too repetitive and 'Fuegian Children' which starts off promising but turns into one of those fake medieval village tracks you've heard a million times before.

However, on balance, this is an enjoyable soundtrack that while it brings nothing strikingly new or original to the table, still has it's moments.
