19 year old emcee/producer, Kid Rad is back once again. Hailing from Burntwood in the West Midlands, Rad's new mix-tape is here released before his up and coming debut album, Disturbing The Sequence which will be released on 15 March 2010. Aptly named Starting The Sequence this free mix-tape comprises 13 short tracks. From start to finish this tape gets those beats going and your head nodding with a certain suave attitude. Starting the mix-tape is the 'BBC Medley Intro' which sets the atmosphere to this tape, sound bites from interviews and presenters talking about Kid Rad get this off to a great start. 'Do It For Me', 'Gwop, Money, Paper' and 'Pointless' all blend into one, cool beat after cool beat. Rad keeps on rolling these head noddingly good beats out with ease. 'The Movie' Feat. Indecent The Slapmaster and Krypto is one of my favourites sounds on this mix. I love the vocals as they all melt into one from soulful laid back vocals to cool attitude laden spits and rhymes. Rad's mix on 'Riverside' is ubercool and I love the lyrics he uses on this. This is a floor filler to get anyone in the party mood. Showing off just how good Rad can spit is the track 'Money Where Your Mouth Is'. I love the fact there are no gimmicks but just straight spitting. What I like about Rad is that he isn't afraid to try new things and put different styles and sounds together. I love the attitude that comes across on his mixes yet he mixes them with soul and funk to get just the right balance. Roll on 15 March, I await the long anticipated debut album, Disturbing The Sequence. 9 Helena Rea |
