Fatima, Swedish born, East London based star had a busy 2009 after working with and featuring highly on some of last years biggest tracks such as, Shafiq Husayns 'Lil Girl', Floating Points 'Peroration Five', Funkineven's 'Kleer' and a recent PA with Slum Village. 2010 sees Fatima releasing her own official sound with the new Mindtravelin EP available on Eglo Records. Being four tracks deep her individual edgy sound shines through. Kicking of this EP is 'Higher', a dark, slow tune, filled with beats and vocals to whisk you off to a dreamy world. It's a sophisticated track and will have you sipping cocktails in style. 'Warm Eyes' is a soulful groovy beat, it's slow and seductive with a summery feel and vibe to it. Fatima's vocals are warm and edgy and just put the finishing touches to the beat. 'Soul Glo' has an individual edgy style, infused with soul, nu jazz and a little trip hop. The vocals are neat and submerge you into a world of uber-cool freakishness This is a truly laid back tune just simmering on heat. Keeping in theme with the rest of the EP is 'On The Go', with its funky stylish sound. It's a bit quirkier than the previous tunes and has a hint of Moloko sounding style to it. All in all this is a real gem of an EP and I love that it has a sophisticated sound mixed with the quirkiness and edgy vocals and beat of Fatima's styling. 8 Helena Rea |
