For those of you who haven't heard of Nneka, where have you been? The Nigerian-German hip-hop/soul singer and songwriter had a hit with her 2009 album No Longer at Ease, so much so that The Independent described it as 'the most invigorating, innovative and powerful release of the year'. The album went on to have a hit with the single 'Heartbeat' which reached Radio 1's A list and saw her awarded a MOBO in 2009 for Best African Act. 'Walking' is the brand new single from Nneka and in her own words she says that it is about the Exodus, the movement of God's people. Using a sample from the Curtis Mayfield composition 'Um Um Um Um' by Major Lance, which this song is based around, there is an infectious beat and melody. Nneka's vocals are strong and to the point. As she says: "I do it in a sweet way - but I sing to speak the truth". This single has a soul, jazz and hip-hop feel about it, she has taken bits from all these genres and brought them together to make a truly magical sound. The 'Farhot Remix' is a jungle meets soul and hip-hop track. It's a genius mix, bringing to the boil all the best parts of the original mix and blending them together with pure jungle for an out of this world experience. Nneka doesn't disappoint. 10 Helena Rea Buy this item online
