French composer Erwann Kermorvant his composed a grand symphonic score for the French sci-fi comedy Un Ticket pour L'espace (aka A Ticket to Space). The orchestral score approaches the drama and action seriously in the same vein of some of the great comedy scores by Elmer Bernstein and Maurice Jarre. At the same time the music pays tribute to the great science fiction film scores by composers such as John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner. Big romantic space music, great thematic material, some fun cinematic in-jokes, and ferocious action music for the giant mutant space turkey (!)...

There are so many nods to other composers work in Erwann Kermorvant's score for Un Ticket pour L'espace that any serious film soundtrack buff will instantly feel at home. Kermorvant not only delivers his own magic to the score, but also pays homage to numerous other sci-fi scores over the course of this 25 track CD.

The main theme which weaves its way throughout tracks including 'So Far, So Close / Gavotte', 'First Night in Space' and 'Space' brought to mind David Arnold's score for Stargate, but there are also nods to John Williams, James Horner and Jerry Goldsmith, to name a few. There's even homage paid to 2001: A Space Odyssey's classical music score towards the end of 'Space'.

An interesting collection of themes and styles, heavily slanted towards sci-fi, which is certainly worth picking up.
