Lone, aka Matt Cutler, is a British electronic musician from Nottingham. Having already released three full length albums, the first being in 2007, and two EPs, he is certainly no stranger to the music scene. His new work is the debut 2 track 10” on Magic Wire Recordings, the new label from WerkDiscs. It’s a far distant cry of the dreamy, hazed out hip hop of his previous albums, Ecstacy & Friends and the classic Lemurain. ‘Pineapple Crush’ hits us with some old skool rave beats with lingering melodic choruses; this is a tune to bang out in the clubs which has already got the following from the likes of Glasgow’s Lucky Me Crew, Kode 9, TRG, Gilles Peterson, Joy Orbison and Alexander Nut. Following on from this is ‘Angel Brain’, a house banger showing off a plume of euphoric and funky trills. Lone certainly knows his audience and mixes things up to get just the right vibe and feel to his sound. 8 Helena Rea |
