In the summer of 1997 the Strange Games & Funky Things series was born, it’s a series which represents today’s R&B and rap music and joins the dots between '70s soul, '80s rare groove and the '90s hip-hop. The series entertains a wide variety of tracks and sounds. Strange Games and Funky Things is here with volume 5 compiled by DJ Spinna and BBE Soundsystem. DJ Spinna can throw his hand at anything with his steadfast work ethic and the willingness to pursue the full extents of his roots (funk, soul and jazz), foundation (hip-hop) and future (electronic/dance music) with no restraints. These are truly some of the funkiest and grooviest mixes I have heard in a long time. We go from slow funk to jazzy grooves throughout this mix. It’s like being transported back in time with the '70s plink and disco vibes. Listening to this compilation I sit and envisage the all too familiar '70s cop shows with the big flares, big patterns and big hair. I love it when I listen to compilations like these and hear familiar tracks. I found ‘For The Love Of Money’ by The Philly Armada Orchestra and ‘Always There’ by Wood Brass and Steel a nice surprise on this CD and allowed me to hum and sing along. Not good for people nearby but great for me! This is a impressive CD to add to any soul and groove collection, I would certainly recommend it. 8 Helena Rea Buy this item online
