Set in Santa Barbara, Psych revolves around a young police consultant, Shawn Spencer, who solves crimes with his 'heightened observational skills'. These powers are so acute; the precinct detectives think he's psychic... at least that's what he lets them believe...

Psych is a comedy series that follows Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his partner Burton "Gus" Guster (Dulé Hill) who run a psychic agency and regularly help the local police department to solve mysterious crimes. In reality Spencer is a fraud - he's not psychic at all, he's just got heightened observational skills. Spencer and Gus normally work along side Carlton "Lassie" Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) the local head detective and Juliet "Jules" O'Hara (Maggie Lawson) who is the junior detective.

More often than not Shawn begrudgingly has to see his dad (Corbin Bernsen) for advice. His dad is a retired police officer and their relationship is a little rocky.

Most episodes start with a flashback to the '80s when Spencer and Gus where young boys. This flashback helps set up something for the episode.

This season also sees Cybill Shepherd appear in a handful of episodes as Shawn's mum.

Highlights in this collection include:

Ghosts: Gus's job at Psych is interfering with his full time job as a salesman at a pharmaceutical company. Gus makes the decision to quit Psych, but Shawn hears that the company's boss lives in a haunted house he cooks up a scheme to ensure Gus can keep both jobs.

Gus Walks Into a Bank: Gus visits the bank at the wrong time - while he's there an armed man enters and Gus ends up in a hostages situation with the gunman (Alan Ruck). Shawn and the the hostage negotiator (Gary Cole) rub each other up the wrong was as they try to free the hostages and, more importantly, attempt to impress Juliet.

Six Feet Under the Sea: When attending the funeral of a local celebrity, Shawn is not amused to discover that they are mourning Shabby, the local aquarium's sea lion. But Shawn soon realises that Shabby has been murdered, and sets out to prove it.

Lassie Did a Bad, Bad Thing: While Lassiter is questioning a suspect in the precinct the lights go out and the suspect is shot and killed with Lassiter's gun. With no one else anywhere near the scene of the killing it doesn't look good for Lassie. However, Shawn believes someone else is responsible

Tuesday the 17th: Based on the Friday the 13th style movie (although this is more a homage to the not so well known movie April Fool's Day) this episode sees Shawn and Gus being hired by an old friend who wants them to find a camp counselor who has vanished off the face of the earth in mysterious circumstances. The camp Shawn and Gus go to is familiar to them - it's the one they went to as kids. Nothing is as it seems and soon a psychotic killer is chasing down the Psyches.

Extras include Deleted Scenes for the episodes Ghost (33 sec) and The Greatest Adventure in the History of Basic Cable (2 min, 46 sec); Video commentaries for four episodes (short interviews with the writers and directors); audio commentaries for five episodes; Gag Reel (8 min, 18 sec); Psychouts (5 min, 31 sec worth of deleted scenes and outtakes); and Montages (5 min, 09 sec collection of themed clips).

So another 16 great comedic episodes of this series that tries to shoehorn in as many subtle movie references as possible.
