Most Haunted had a very successful run of series, although the show is in a probable permanent hiatus, with the loss of its main presenter Yvette Fielding. The show was always more of an entertainment than an actual investigation into the possibility of paranormal activity. The various seasons had scoured the length and breadth of Great Britain to find backdrops to their peculiar version of The Blair Witch Project, with apocryphal tails of ghostly goings on. Fans always found the show fascinating, others would look on with disbelief that it had even been commissioned. However, its success with its core audience was beyond reproach and in the cold light of day, there have been many better and more worthy shows which have not been able to sustain such longevity. So, The Best of Most Haunted Live is a peculiar beast. Obviously the show traded on suggestion and tricks to convince the audience that something was occurring. It would be a brave show which tried that in front of an audience, and of course, Most Haunted doesn’t. I’m not sure what version of live, the show subscribes to, it certainly didn’t involve any independent audience and given that the show has inserts and editing, I’m not even convinced that it was broadcast live, so what we seem to have here is just another season of Most Haunted. So, same format - turn up, try and look scared, even when nothing happens - in various historical locations. This series is presented on a two DVD set which visits Bodelwyddan Castle, Tatton Old Hall, Capesthorne Hall and Gawthorpe Hall on the first disc and Rufford Old Hall, Golden Grove Mansion, Lincoln Prison and Dalston Hall on the second. The show is presented in its original aspect ratio, with variable picture quality, though this has more to do with the nature of the show than anything else. For fans it’s another great value set to add to their collection, though there is little here for those of a sceptical nature. 6 Charles Packer Buy this item online
