In the high-octane, 3D action-adventure Drive Angry, Nicholas Cage stars as Milton, a hardened felon who has broken out of hell intent on finding the vicious cult who brutally murdered his daughter and kidnapped her baby. He joins forces with Piper (Amber Heard) a sexy, tough-as-nails waitress with a G9 Charger, who’s also seeking redemption of her own. Now, the two of them are hot on the trail of the deadly leader of the cult (Billy Burke), all while being pursued by an enigmatic killer (William Fichtner) who has been sent by the devil to retrieve Milton and deliver him back to hell. Caught in a deadly race against time, Milton has 3 days to avoid capture, avenge his daughter’s death, and save her baby before she’s mercilessly sacrificed by the cult... Composer Michael Wandmacher’s feature films scoring credits include My Bloody Valentine 3-D, Punisher: War Zone, Freakonomics, Never Back Down, The Killing Floor, Cry Wolf, Train, Max Keeble’s Big Move and The Legend Of Drunken Master for director Jackie Chan, television series, TV movies, including Ben 10: Alien Swarm, and video games including Singularity, Madagascar, Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa and Over The Hedge. Those who have seen Drive Angry will know what to expect from this soundtrack. It's a loud, and high energy score which wonderfully compliments the onscreen action of the movie. However, listened to on its own it's not quite as fulfilling an experience. This is one score that was designed to heighten the tension of the movie, not to be listened to in isolation. There are no standout themes that make you sit up and take notice - just wall to wall action music. While it's not personally the kind of soundtrack I'd dig out and listen to very often, it's still an interesting score that has its moments. 6 Darren Rea |
