The soundtrack to Ceremony features original music by Eric D. Johnson (of the Fruit Bats) as well as songs by General Public, Van Dyke Parks, Ringo Starr, Eric Burdon & The Animals and Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend. Whilst the classic tracks included on this album are enjoyable, I found Johnson's score lacking in both emotion and depth. It's not that it's bad, just rather bland - the sort of music you've heard a million times before as filler material in low budget Spanish movies. There was nothing here that grabbed my attention. But as chill out music for a lazy summer's day this is listenable. This is a rather short album coming in at around 33 minutes in length - Johnson's tracks make up just under 20 minutes of the total. The various artist tracks include 'Never You Done That' (General Public); ' Plots and Entrees' (Van Dyke Parks); 'It Don't Come Easy' (Ringo Starr); 'Papa Hobo' (Ezra Koenig of the band Vampire Weekend); and 'Good Times' (Eric Burdon & The Animals). 4 Darren Rea |
