Hollie Cook's self-coined 'tropical pop' sound stems from her passion for reggae singers Janet Kay and Phyllis Dillon combined with classic '60s girl groups. The album includes an impressive cover of Shangri-Las's '(Remember) Walkin' in the Sand'. Here Cooke transforms the dark emotive original into something with a lot more light and positive vibes - a brave venture that could have easily sounded foolish, but ends up being pulled off incredible well. Her voice sounds not unlike Dido on the track 'It's So Different Here', in fact from track to track Cook's vocals shift and change proving she's a truly versatile singer with an impressive vocal range. This is an impressive debut album which beautifully blends reggae with more western pop influences. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
