An economically repressed young man loses his father in his attempt to cross the border (to send money home) at Tijuana, Mexico. As Bondo sets out on his own, he encounters an array of people holding him back, including the Chief of TJ police that killed his father, that now wants him dead too. The film stars Danny Trejo, Douglas Spain, Ray Aguoyo, Richard Azurdia, and Yeniffer Behrens... The soundtrack to American Flyer is a little too quirky and atmospheric to stand alone as an interesting listening experience in its own right. The majority of the tracks go nowhere and provide little emotion. These are mainly tracks designed to lay quietly in the background to add a little atmosphere to the movie. And, while I'm sure they do a wonderful job in the picture, when listened to in isolation they don't really sound like anything other than what they are - filler material. There are moment's of genius though. I loved the quirky yet beautiful 'You Built It!' as well as the main theme which is woven in amongst tracks like 'Flying Machine' and 'Let the Building Begin'. I have no idea what 'Human Piñata' was composed to accompany - but to be honest I think I'm better off not knowing. Sadly the stand out moments are few and far between. 6 Darren Rea |
