'Country' is the new single from Tom Eno, whose distinct playing style blends classical Spanish and jazz guitar, drawing inspiration from jazz masters Charlie Byrd and Django Reinhardt as well as classical guitarists and composers such as Segovia and Villa-Lobos. I must be getting old, or something, but I'm getting a little worried by the number of artists who are out there that can't actually hold a note. Eno has teamed up with James Bright for this single and it seriously sounds like he needs singing lessons. 'Country' is, I feel, the weakest of the tracks on this single. The vocals warble along with the artist having neither the range nor the power to reach those high notes or hold the long segments. Which is a shame, because the actual track is quite interesting. 'We'll Decide' showcases vocals which appear to clash with the music. It's not a comfortable experience... for the ears. The third track 'Everybody Knows' sounds like it's been inspired by Paul Weller, with the artist even sounding like Weller. Yes, it seems we've found a track which works. This single is only really worth buying for the last track, which is as far removed from the first two songs as it's possible to get. 4 Nick Smithson Buy this item online |
