Born and raised in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, actress/singer Kristen Chenoweth goes back to her country music roots with her new album Some Lessons Learned. The album was produced in Nashville by the legendary Bob Ezrin and includes songs by elite pop and country songwriters including Diane Warren, Desmond Child, Tom Douglas, Hillary Scott, Jodi Marr, Victoria Shaw, Dolly Parton, Eric Bazilian, Gary Burr and Shane McAnnally... Some Lessons Learned is a country pop album by Kristin Chenoweth. Chenoweth's musical theatre career has seen her star on Broadway as Sally Brown in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (1999), for which she won a Tony Award. She was the original Glinda in the musical Wicked (2003). On TV she's best known her role as Annabeth Schott in The West Wing as well as playing Olive Snook on Pushing Daisies. This album sees her singing songs by well known country songwriters including Diane Warren ('I Want Somebody (Bitch About)'; 'Wreck You'; 'Borrowed Angels'; 'What if We Never'; 'Lessons Learned') and Dolly Parton ('Change'). Chenoworth also contributed two songs, 'What Would Dolly Do?' which is written in honour of her hero Dolly Parton, and 'Mine to Love,' about a woman who struggles with an emotionally unavailable man. My personal favourites are the slow, romantic tracks including 'Borrowed Angels'; 'Fathers And Daughters'; and the slightly more up tempo 'Lessons Learned'. The album consists of 13 tracks with a running time of just over 45 minutes. It's a good collection that showcases Chenoworth's vocal abilities well. 9 Nick Smithson |
