Dirty Girl is the story of Danielle (Juno Temple), the dirty girl of Norman High School in Norman, Oklahoma, circa 1987. When Danielle's misbehaviour gets her banished to a remedial class, she is paired on a parenting project with Clarke (Jeremy Dozier), an innocent closet-case with no friends. Danielle is determined to get to California to find the father she's never met, and Clarke is desperate to escape being sent to military school by his homophobic dad. Together, the mismatched misfits light out for California and discover each other and themselves through a funny and serendipitous friendship... This movie, set in the late '80s, has, you'll be unsurprised to hear, a distinct '80s flavour to it. Unfortunately it's not particularly a period, musically at any rate, that I'd really like to relive. Okay, that's not strictly true. I was 17 in 1987 and so these were good times for me... Thankfully none of the music here played a part in my teenage years. It's not that this album is poor, it's just that it collects together some sugary, and rather middle of the road tracks which won't appeal to the majority of the population. I can't imagine anyone seeing the film, hearing these tracks and thinking: "I must pick up that soundtrack." Track listing: 'Shadows of the Night' - Pat Benatar 3 Darren Rea |
