I Don’t Know How She Does It, directed by Douglas McGrath, is based on the critically acclaimed bestseller by Allison Pearson. It follows the long days and sleep-deprived nights of Kate Reddy (Sarah Jessica Parker), a Boston-based working mother trying desperately to juggle marriage, children, and a high-stress job... Aaron Zigman is probably best known for his work on the Sex and the City movies. I have to admit that I was previously unfamiliar with his work, but listening to his score I was really impressed by the depth of his work, and a little surprised that Hollywood wasn't hammering down his door for more impressive projects. Okay, this won't be to most people's taste, but I really enjoyed it - it's got that low key, American family comedy feel to it. This album reminded me a lot of Howard Shore's scores for Big (1988) and Mrs. Doubtfire (1993). This album is quite a short one, consisting of 28 tracks lasting 38 mins, 27 sec. While by no means an essential purchase, there's still enough good material here for me to recommend you at least search it out and give it a try. 8 Darren Rea |
