MovieScore Media releases French composer Nicolas Errèra's powerful, highly emotional and truly epic score for the Hong Kong action adventure Shaolin, starring Andy Lau and Jackie Chan. This is a thematically rich and engaging score that mixes ethnic elements (including enchanting erhu solos by virtuoso Guo Gan), subtle sound design and pounding percussion with the forces of a full orchestra. Following the journey of the film's heroic protagonist, Errèra's music is filled with passionate themes (such as the 'The Little Girl'), intense action writing and engaging suspense... Nicolas Errèra's score for Shaolin is a mixed bag of themes and styles. While there's the cliched ethnic sounds designed to transport you to the orient, there are also beautiful themes that work outside of the confines of the movie theatre. The most obvious examples being 'The Little Girl', 'Life Goes On' and 'Encouragements'. On balance, this is an interesting collection of themes with a heavy influence on the sounds of the orient. 7 Darren Rea |
