The French action thriller Nuit Blanche stars Tomer Sisley, Joey Starr and Julien Boisselier and revolves around a drug heist that goes wrong. The soundtrack album sees the orchestral/electronic score being joined by a handful of electronica tracks - dark and hard-hitting deep house numbers by Ionic Benton and Valgun... It's interesting how different a composer's work can be between two separate projects, and that's the sign of a good composer; being able to write to fit the mood of the project. The difference between the music here and Nicolas Errèra's score for Shaolin are poles apart. In fact you'd be forgiven for thinking this was two separate composers. However, as talented as Errèra is, I have to admit I didn't find this an enjoyable soundtrack to listen to outside the confines of the movie. This can probably be best described as a collection of ambient background atmospheric tracks with a few light dance/dubstep esque tracks thrown in. The only memorable tracks that are worthy of your time are the beautifully haunting 'Separation' and 'Paternity'. 3 Darren Rea |
