Break of Dawn takes us on a journey of sensuality, heartbreak and ultimately resolution and inner peace. The album features production from heavyweights such as Malay of John Legend and Mary J. Blige fame, Bobby Ozuna, whose previous credits include John Mayer and Erykah Badu, and Kanye West, amongst many others. The album kicks off with 'Play', which allows us to gently slip into Goapele's world. This gives way to 'Tears on my Pillow', which sounds more like a classic R&B track. It's at this point you realise that this is a more personal project from Goapele. Goapele has an incredibly powerful, beautiful voice. And the range... the difference between the soft, 'Piece' and rough, edgier 'Money' is all the evidence you need that there are many strings to her bow. This release seems to be missing the final track from the USA release 'Cupcake, but other than that slight complaint, this is a powerful album that's well worth seeking out. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
