This is the second of Lakeshore Records's soundtrack releases for Underworld: Awakening. The previous album, featured a collection of soft metal tracks, while this release houses Paul Haslinger's rocking score along with a number of soft metal tracks. The album, which contains 25 tracks, lasts for 59 min, 14 sec and includes the original artist tracks 'Corner (Justin Lassen Remix)' - Blue Stahli; 'Under Your Skin (Deadbeat Remix)' - Aesthetic Perfection; and 'Sunrise' - Angelspit. While these three tracks fit well on this album I was surprised that they'd been included here and not on the previous release. Paul Haslinger's score feels like one of the characters of the movie. It's adrenaline pumping and really wakes you up with its many deep, rocking themes. It's big and bold in its scope, but equally contains many beautiful themes. 'Arriving at the Coven' reminded my of Danny Elfman's music for Batman. In fact there were a number of instances when this score reminded me of Elfman's work, but that doesn't detract from the fact that Haslinger has delivered an original and rather impressive score here. If you like meaty soundtracks, something to get your teeth into, then you'll thoroughly enjoy this album. 8 Darren Rea |
