In The Grey, Liam Neeson leads an unruly group of oil-rig roughnecks when their plane crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. Battling mortal injuries and merciless weather, the survivors have only a few days to escape the icy elements - and a vicious pack of rogue wolves on the hunt - before their time runs out. The soundtrack features original music by Marc Streitenfeld... The majority of the tracks on Marc Streitenfeld's score for The Grey are of the atmospheric background variety. While this no doubt adds much to the atmosphere of the movie, when listened to in isolation it's mostly a bland listening experience. There are moments where Streitenfeld is allowed to unleash his talent for writing beautiful segments. These include the tracks 'You Are Gonna Die'; 'Life and Death'; and 'Memorial'. The album also ends rather abruptly. While I wasn't expecting a great fanfare or crescendo, it just sort of ends on a rather bland note. The album lasts for 35 min, 09 sec and contains 15 tracks. 6 Darren Rea |
