Nick Flynn (portrayed in the film by Paul Dano of Little Miss Sunshine and There Will Be Blood) is a young writer seeking to define himself. He misses his late mother, Jody (four-time Academy Award nominee Julianne Moore), and her loving nature. But his father, Jonathan, is not even a memory, as Nick has not seen the man in 18 years... The soundtrack album to Being Flynn consists of 15 tracks, making up 40 min, 26 sec of music. Written and performed by Badly Drawn Boy (aka Damon Gough) this is a collection of upbeat, partly-jazz influenced tracks - half of which include vocals, the other half of which are mellow, instrumental tracks. The opening track, 'I'll Keep The Things You Throw Away' brought to mind the style of Billy Bragg. 'The Smile Behind Your Face' also has a catchy tune which is almost impossible not to tap your feet to. 'Coming To Your Senses' is another catchy tune, but more mellow. 'Let It Rain' has a riff that reminded me of David Bowie's 'As the World Falls Down' from the movie Labyrinth. While I'm not usually a fan of vocal soundtrack albums, this is worth checking out. Badly Drawn Boy delivers some beautiful tracks. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
