Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father's ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando's younger brother Raul (Diego Luna), shows up with his new fiancé, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul's success as an international businessman means the ranch's troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul's business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico's most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal)... The soundtrack to Casa de mi Padre has, unsurprisingly, a Spanish flavour. As the sound byte at the start of the album says: "If it sounds Spanish, man, that's what it is. It's a Spanish movie". If you've seen the movie, you'll know what you're in for. And if you haven't seen the movie, it's very unlikely you'll be picking the album up on a whim. The opening track 'Casa de mi Padre', performed by Christina Aguilera is this album's standout track. It sounds like a Spanish James Bond theme. The album is littered with quotes from the movie, something I usually detest, but it works incredibly well here. Highlights include the aforementioned 'Casa de mi Padre'; a Spanish cover of Procol Harum's 'A Whiter Shade Of Pale'; 'Fight for Love'; 'Car Burn'; 'Dad Dies' (which sounds like its been influenced by the work of Danny Elfman); and 'Raul Dies'. There are 20 tracks which make up 40 min, 57 sec worth of music. Track listing: 01 - 'Casa de mi Padre' - Christina Aguilera 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online |
