Martine , a 23-year-old artist from New York, arrives in Los Angeles to stay in the pool house of a family living in the hip and hilly community of Silver Lake. Peter, the father, has agreed to help Martine complete sound design on her art film as a favour to his wife. Martine innocently enters the seemingly idyllic life of this open-minded family with two kids and a relaxed Southern California vibe. Like a bolt of lightning, her arrival sparks a surge of energy that awakens suppressed impulses in everyone and forces them to confront their own fears and desires... Following on from their score for Lola Versus, Fall on Your Sword releases its soundtrack for Nobody Walks. A more conventional, and mellow sound is produced here, with the end result being much more enjoyable as a standalone score. 'Kolt', reminded me of an instrumental take on Miley Cyrus's 'Bottom Of The Ocean'. There's still a fair amount of quirkiness here: 'The Dinner' being the best example (it sounds like a Michael Nyman composition (only a 100 times better). 'Leaving Town' is probably this album's most beautiful track, while 'Kolt's Reprise' is the most catchy and memorable. So, another interesting album by Fall on Your Sword which is certainly worth checking out. 7 Darren Rea |
