Kate and Charlie are a young married couple whose bond is built on a mutual love of music, laughter and drinking... especially the drinking. When Kateʼs drinking leads her to dangerous places and her job as a school teacher is put into jeopardy, she decides to join AA and get sober. With the help of her friend and sponsor Jenny, and the vice principal at her school, the awkward, but well intentioned, Mr. Davies, Kate takes steps toward improving her health and life. Sobriety isnʼt as easy as Kate had anticipated. Her new lifestyle brings to the surface a troubling relationship with her mother, facing the lies sheʼs told her employer and calls into question whether or not her relationship with Charlie is built on love or is just boozy diversion from adulthood... The soundtrack to Smashed features a quirky collection of tracks that shouldn't work together as a collection, but somehow they kinda do. Andy Cabic and Eric D. Johnson's original score is peppered throughout the other tracks. Of the 13 tracks on the album (35 min, 29 sec) only 6 are by Cabic and Johnson (representing only 7 min, 47 sec of music). It's a short album, but if you enjoyed the movie you'll no doubt relish the chance to own this soundtrack. For the casual soundtrack fan, this is probably an album you should listen to first before you part with your money. For me, the album's highlights included 'I Want To See the Bright Lights Tonight' (Richard and Linda Thompson); and 'Dreams-Come-True-Girl' (Cass McCombs). In addition Bart Davenport's 'Someone2Dance' reminded me Cheap Trick. Track listing: 01 - 'Shower and a Beer' - Andy Cabic & Eric D. Johnson 6 Darren Rea |
