Sony Music's soundtrack of Silver Linings Playbook, includes Jessie J and Diane Warren's 'Silver Lining (Crazy ‘Bout You)' two new songs by the young American rock group Alabama Shakes and the up-and-coming British indie quartet Alt-J - as well as original music by Danny Elfman and various tracks that reflect the mood of the film. Songs include Stevie Wonder's 'My Cherie Amour' and Rare Earth’s hit 'Hey Big Brother', CrabCorps’ version of 'Monster Mash', Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash singing 'Girl from the North Country', and two tracks from The Dave Brubeck Quartet: a version of the West Side Story classic 'Maria', and the legendary 'Unsquare Dance'... The artists and musical styles that make up the soundtrack to Silver Linings Playbook represent a diverse collection that ensures that there will be at least a couple of tracks for everyone's tastes. There's a couple of tracks by composer Danny Elfman, tracks for a more modern audience as well as songs from earlier decades. On balance, it's an interesting album, but it's diversity does mean that very few people will embrace every track on the soundtrack. The album contains 14 tracks and has a running time of 45 min, 36 sec. While an interesting enough collection, it's not an album I'd dig out often enough to warrant purchasing in full. And, on a side note, I couldn't help being reminded of Leona Lewis's 'Bleeding Love' at the start of the Jessie J track 'Silver Lining'.
