Inspired by a true story from the late 1970s and touching on legal and social issues that are as relevant today as they were 35 years ago, Any Day Now is a powerful tale of love, acceptance and family. When a teenager with Down syndrome (Isaac Leyva) is abandoned by his mother, a gay couple (Alan Cumming and Garret Dillahunt) takes him in and becomes the loving family he's never had. But when their unconventional living arrangement is discovered by authorities, the men are forced to fight a biased legal system to save the life of the child they have come to love as their own... The score for Any Day Now is a mellow, instrumental affair that is heavy on piano based themes. It's also a rather short album, the 11 tracks lasting for just 19 min, 04 sec. When listening to 'Love Don’t Live Here Anymore' I couldn't help but be reminded of Vangelis's 'Memories of Green' from his score for Blade Runner. In addition 'Play It Cool' brought to mind Vince Guaraldi music from the Peanuts animated series. It's an interesting album which will be warmly received by lovers of piano based scores. 7 Darren Rea |
