Chronicling the work of the Miami-Dade crime investigators, CSI: Miami is set against the sun, fun and tropics of the Florida tourist haven. Leading the team is Horatio Caine, an ex-bomb squad detective who is no stranger to confrontations with criminals and the underworld... The tenth, and final, season of CSI: Miami is released as a five disc DVD collection. This is a slightly shorter season, with only 19 episodes. CBS cancelled the show just a month after the final episode was broadcast - which goes some way to explaining why the season ends on a rather strange note. While it thankfully doesn't end on a cliff-hanger, it does leave a few minor unanswered questions and it's pretty obvious that the producers expected to return for another season. That said, the final episode does kind of work as a show finale, but it's a shame the producers weren't actually given the chance to give the characters a proper send off. The main storyline this season, or at least the one story that we keep going back to, is that of a serial killer. To be honest, I found this had a rather dull and cliched plot. Highlights in this season include the episodes: Blown Away, sees the team trying to preserve a crime scene as a tornado threatens to destroy the evidence. This episode has some amazing set designs (as can be seen in one of the extras in this collection). Sinner Takes All: During a high stakes poker game one of the gamblers is shot by a masked gun man. But how did he smash through the safety glass into the room, and was he even the killer? A Few Dead Men, starts with a flashback to Frank Tripp's first case - that of the murder of a young boy. In the present day the three men who were arrested for the crime are released when some of the evidence is brought into question. But as the freed men are slowly tracked down and killed, Caine and his team are brought in to find out who the killer is. Habeas Corpse: The final show in the series opens with Wolfe coming too in a room with a murdered man. The team have to prove he's not the murderer and find out who really killed him. Guest stars this season include Bo Derek, Raquel Welch and Malcolm McDowell. And Adam Rodriguez (Eric Delko) gets behind the camera as writer and director on an episode based on the Penn State scandal. Extras include deleted scenes for most episodes; audio commentaries on two episodes; Miami Meets Mother Nature (14 min, 58 sec behind the scenes on the episode Blown Away); A Perfect 10 (20 min, 52 sec look at season 10); A "Tripp" to the set (17 min, 14 sec tongue in cheek set tour with Rex Linn (who plays Frank Tripp)); The Miami Look (11 min, 20 sec look at the work of the set design department); and Gag Reel (2 min, 16 sec). So another fantastic, if shorter, season of CSI: Miami. It's a shame the series has been cancelled as I'll miss keeping up to date with the exploits of the Miami-Dade team. 8 Amber Leigh |
