Rod Abernethy has earned numerous awards for his video game work on such titles as RAGE, Dead Space, The Hobbit, TERA an Dead Head Fred. Though best known for his works composing for the game world, it was the real world that inspired his new album The Upward Turn... The Upward Turn is the new album from Rod Abernethy. It's quite a short album, coming in at 24 min, 28 sec spread over 10 tracks. But don't let that deter you, this is an interesting album. The main inspiration, it would appear, is the real world. Abernethy used found objects and recorded their sounds, manipulating, time stretching and pitch shifting it to form the inspiration of the tracks. The end result is an interesting experiment that provides some rich segments. While it's a world away from Abernethy's usual world of gaming scores, it's interesting to see what he comes up with when he is allowed to let his creative juices flow unhampered by genre constraints. 7 Darren Rea |
