Single Flame is Lucy Ward's second album (the first being 2011's Adelphi Has to Fly). Ward delivers a mix of original and traditionally arranged songs. The album opens with 'I Cannot Say I Will Not Speak', which is a rather dull way to open the album. 'Honey' is a mellow track which is more in keeping with the general sound of the other tracks on the album. Traditional arrangements, but given a twist, include 'Lord I Don't Want to Die in the Storm' which is a song that originates from America - the music is new, resulting in a haunting glimpse of minimalistic Americana. 'Marching Through the Green Grass' is another arrangement of a song that is more commonly known as both 'Soldier Boy' and 'Sailor Boy'. 'For the Dead Men' is arguably this album's most beautiful track. This is Ward's tribute to all those that have given their lives to shape our past, present and future. The album contains 12 tracks and lasts for 49 min, 06 sec, offering a glimpse into the fringes of modern folk. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
